Linking theory with practice is the basis for success. That is why co-operating with schools makes great sense to us. We want to offer students a glimpse under the hood of a large company and show them real work in the field. This way, students will be able to get a better idea of their future careers.

Work experience while studying

Are you a student who would like to get some work experience but is also concerned that you will not be able to cope with the work pace during your studies? You needn't worry, the education of our employees is very important to us, which is why our colleagues will treat you with great consideration and try to ensure your working time is according to your time available! Getting some work experience while studying is a great opportunity to kick-start your career.

Consultation & Supervision of Bachelor and Master theses

Our colleagues will be glad to advise you, help you explore the field of civil engineering in practice and become your supervisors during the writing process of your Bachelor's or Master's thesis.

Scholarship programmes

We are also happy to announce that we support students financially, which is why we have set up a scholarship programme! Any student attending some secondary technical school, secondary vocational school or university in the Czech Republic may apply for the programme.

Employment Journey of Ing. Jiří Karásek

Jiří had first joined us in the summer of 2017 while studying in Prague at the Faculty of Civil Engineering which is one of the eight faculties of the Czech Technical University. During the examination period, his work hours and overall attendance were adjusted to allow him to properly manage his work responsibilities with studying for exams.
Since the August of 2020, Jiří has been working for us full-time as Cost Estimator and has also tried working on a construction site.

This is one of the many ways how you can work for us while studying!

Events for Students

Breakfast with COLAS

During this event, we are going to meet up either at our head office or somewhere at your school and then we will talk over a nice great breakfast. Often, there is an experienced employee present who shall introduce you to everything working in COLAS includes in more detail and share some expertise and experience with you. Finally, we are going to take you personally with us to one of our construction sites, quarries or HAMPs (Hot asphalt mixing plants), where you can see the practical side of what we do.

Excursions

We organise excursions for students to our construction sites, HAMPs and quarries regularly. You will find out about the whole construction process - what is necessary before a construction project even starts; how to handle all the cost estimates and how to control the expenses and also how the construction works are actually executed.

Specific lectures

Our employees are experienced experts in their field and can therefore share with you a lot of interesting insight and knowledge. All you have to do is tell us what topic from the field of traffic engineering you would be interested in and together with our colleagues we will organize a lecture for you.

Day for female students

We are aware that there are not many female students who would choose construction-related study programmes, and that is indeed a pity! We want to encourage and motivate such female students to continue their construction careers. We have a number of great female colleagues working on construction sites and in offices who will be happy to share their story.

Calendar of Events for Students

Hall of the Year Academic

18/5/2022

At the Hall of the Year Academic competition, held under the auspices of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, we have awarded a wild card to one of many promising projects.

Students were assigned to design and build a model of a structure according to quite detailed specifications and to perform a load test on the structure.

They took on the assignment in a very professional way and created many unique structures representing a section of a typical manufacturing facility.

Excursion for female students from secondary technical schools

We are constantly trying to tear down the myth that the construction industry is exclusively men's business! Our many successful female colleagues, which are working on technical positions, as well as the unprecedented interest of female students from secondary technical schools in transport engineering are proof of that. In COLAS, we had prepared a loaded programme for them and during the excursion, we have presented them the options of possible internships both in our country and abroad. In the end, after the students were taken out for a tour of the Čenkov Hot asphalt mixing plant and quarry, we went together to the centre of Prague.

Co-operation with Schools

There are many schools we co-operate with, all of them are technically focused.
We organise many excursions and lectures form them regularly and, therefore, the students have many opportunities to find out more about us.

Secondary Professional Schools

"Střední odborné školy" have, according to the Czech education system,
a 4-year-long study programme finished by the Maturita exam. This exam is
required for entering a university. There are several kinds of fields these schools
focus on. At COLAS CZ, a.s., we co-operate with the technically-oriented ones.

Secondary Vocational Schools

"Střední odborná učiliště" last, according to the Czech education system, for 2 or 3 years and are concluded by a final exam, which is actually not the Maturita exam. However, some schools nowadays offer a 2-year-long follow-up study programme, which is finished with the Maturita exam. These schools are also focused towards a specific field. In comparison with the Professional Schools, the fields are usually focused more on professions (e.g. cook, hairdresser, etc.).
