We have completed another section on the Podbeskydská magistrála D48
The gradual transformation of the infamous "death road" I/48 into a full-fledged and safe D48 motorway has taken another step forward. On the so-called Podbeskydská magistrála, a section of 8.2 kilometres between Palačov and Šenov near Nový Jičín is being opened. It will follow up on part of the first stage of the Bělotín-Rybí section, which was put into operation last Christmas. A consortium of Colas CZ and Firesta-Fišer between Bělotín and Rybí carried out a complete reconstruction of the road, which was built as a four-lane road in the 1970s and 1980s, but had long since failed to meet the standard categories: there was no central strip and space behind the shoulder. Thanks to the reconstruction, the former dangerous class I road has acquired the parameters of a full-fledged motorway, which will offer drivers a more comfortable, smoother and, above all, safer ride.

In the newly reconstructed Palačov-Šenov section, there are six bridge structures and nine noise barriers in the length of 4.8 kilometres. As part of the contract, the builders also modified and relocated local and accompanying roads and field roads, and the Starý Jičín interchange was also reconstructed. The width arrangement of the entire section now fully complies with the motorway parameters. However, even after the completion of the Bělotín-Rybí section, the builders of Colas CZ will remain in the foothills of the Beskydy Mountains. The Bělotín-Rybí section is connected to the five-kilometre Palačovská spojka (I/35 Lesná-Palačov), which will divert transit traffic from local roads and facilitate the connection between the international route towards Frýdek-Místek and Poland and the main European route to Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and further to Slovakia. Colas CZ started building this important transport link last year in a consortium with Colas Hungária and Firesta-Fišer.
