Liblín Bridge Receives Award in the Czech Transport Construction 2025 Competition
COLAS CZ has achieved a significant success in the prestigious Czech Transport Construction 2025 competition. The reconstruction of the historic bridge in Liblín was honoured with the SILNICE ŽELEZNICE Magazine Award, recognizing projects that deliver outstanding quality and contribution to transport infrastructure development.
The award ceremony took place in the historic Fant Hall at Prague's Main Railway Station. The award was accepted on behalf of COLAS CZ by Chief Site Manager Tomáš Vodička, who led the entire project.
"We greatly appreciate this recognition. It confirms the professional work of the entire team, which successfully combined demanding technical requirements with respect for the bridge's historical value," said Tomáš Vodička.
Sensitive Restoration of a Historic Structure
The nearly 100-year-old bridge spanning the Berounka River in Liblín underwent a comprehensive reconstruction between 2024 and 2025. The project's objective was to preserve its architectural character while ensuring safe and comfortable use for modern traffic.
As part of the reconstruction, the original bridge deck was removed and replaced with a new structure built on the preserved substructure. The historic arches and foundations were retained, allowing the bridge to maintain its original appearance and unique character.
The result is a faithful replica of the original 1929 bridge that now meets the requirements of a Class II road, including a wider carriageway and a safe pedestrian walkway.
Combining Heritage and Modern Engineering
The reconstruction involved several technical challenges, including the construction of new foundations for the abutments to meet current load-bearing and safety standards. At 138 metres in length, the bridge serves as a vital transport link for the regions of northern Pilsen and Rokycany.
This award confirms that the careful restoration of historic structures has an important place in modern construction and demonstrates that cultural heritage can be successfully combined with the demands of contemporary infrastructure.
