Daniel Šmíd Wins Two Awards in the Student Category of the Czech Transport Construction 2025 Competition

This year's Czech Transport Construction 2025 competition also brought success to our colleague Daniel Šmíd, who received two awards in the student category.

The jury was impressed by his master's thesis, "Plant Fibres in Asphalt Concrete for Wearing Courses", which focused on experimentally evaluating the use of jute fibres to improve the properties of asphalt mixtures.

Recognition for an Innovative Approach

For his research, Daniel Šmíd received an award from the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, Prof. Petr Konvalinka, as well as an award from one of the competition's patrons.

His thesis explored the possibilities of using natural materials in transport construction and delivered valuable insights into the potential benefits of plant fibres for enhancing asphalt mixture performance.

Supporting Young Professionals

Daniel Šmíd's success highlights the importance of connecting academic research with industry practice and demonstrates that innovation and fresh ideas continue to play a key role in the future of transport infrastructure.

The student category once again showcased the high standard of technical education and the enthusiasm young professionals bring to the field. We are proud that one of the award recipients was our colleague and would like to congratulate Daniel on this outstanding achievement.

His double success complements another major achievement in this year's competition: the reconstruction of the historic Liblín Bridge, which received the SILNICE ŽELEZNICE Magazine Award. Together, these recognitions make the 2025 edition of the Czech Transport Construction competition particularly successful for COLAS CZ.
