COLAS CZ is at home on Ostrava's tram tracks. In the North Moravian metropolis, has already implemented several contracts for the Ostrava Transport Company. Most recently, over the summer, it completed a complete reconstruction of the tram line in 28. října Street, i.e. in the very centre of the city.
In just 40 days, the builders of Colas CZ had to accomplish a lot. The basis of the contract was the reconstruction of a 425 m double-track tram line. After the dismantling of the old tracks, earthworks, remediation, drainage and relocation of the water mains, a new track superstructure was created as a fixed track laid on a 70 cm thick concrete slab. The paving of the line and the platform of the Regional Authority stop was made of natural granite pavement for aesthetic reasons. The contract also included the replacement of 19 traction poles and 900 m of the catenary. Colas CZ also built two new platforms with railings and shelters.
"Safety on the platforms will be increased by warning lights installed in the pavement and alerting passengers to an approaching tram," adds Daniel Šilar, head of the Rail Construction Centre of Colas CZ.
In addition, a unique "silent" technology was used during the reconstruction of the tram line in 28. října Street. Given that the tram line is located near the House of Culture, where a new concert hall for Ostrava is planned, the fixed track was placed on a specially designed system of anti-vibration mats. "During the concreting, we had to constantly monitor the progress of the work to prevent the anti-vibration mats from being pushed through. The entire track had to be stored in a perfectly insulated tub to prevent the transmission of vibrations," explains Daniel Šilar.
