From March 2022, the tramway line Ohrada - Krejcárek was closed for reconstruction and passengers had to take alternative buses. However, the fast connection between Žižkov and Libeň on rails was re-opened this June. The complete reconstruction of the tramway link, which was carried out by a consortium of Colas CZ, a.s. and FIRESTA-Fišer and whose investor was the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP), is now fully functional.
"The tram line Ohrada - Palmovka is another of a number of reconstructions of tram lines in various cities in the Czech Republic that COLAS has managed to successfully implement in recent years. We were able to use our experience gained during similar projects, but also to build on the proven long-term cooperation with FIRESTA-Fišer. I am glad that we managed to complete the project on time and the Prague Public Transit Company is pleased to have been able to take part in the project as well. The reconstructed section between Žižkov and Libeň can be put into operation on schedule," says Tomáš Krones, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of COLAS CZ, a.s.
Between Ohrada and Palmovka, there were 1,246 metres of new tracks built, which are equipped with lubricators to reduce the noise of trams when passing through the curves. The bridge forming the flyover itself has also been completely repaired. This was the first ever overhaul of the tramway link between Žižkov and Libeň, which have been first put into operation in 1990.
